Position Description

As the Royal Canadian Air Forces’ prime service provider at 5 Wing Goose Bay, Labrador, our team delivers comprehensive air operations, emergency services, logistics and engineering expertise to the Department of National Defence. We work on behalf of DND’s “no fail” mission at Goose Bay: supporting NORAD operations for the projection of air power on the north and northeast coasts of Canada, while supporting military training for the Canadian Armed Forces, Allies and NORAD. 5 Wing Goose Bay provides effective training facilities, adaptable infrastructures, and a unique, austere, and challenging training location.   Currently, Serco Canada has over 1,200 employees across four provinces, including a strong and growing Indigenous workforce.

You will be part of a team that works closely with the military customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality and efficient services to DND. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work
  • Perform/assist in life cycle management pertaining to problematic or old equipment that may be unnecessarily using resources and maintenance dollars.
  • Assemble/Install stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to layouts using hand, pneumatic, power tools and welding equipment.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance
  • Using applicable processes and tools, log all work order details daily (e.g. labour hours, comments, etc)
  • Using applicable processes and tools, enter time for pay purposes weekly, ensuring timesheets are signed as determined by the employer.
  • Using applicable processes and tools, carry out all work tasks as assigned, including requisitioning of
  • Perform maintenance on hangar doors and overhead
  • Perform all required maintenance on aircraft arresting
  • Put up and take down cables upon
  • Ensure aircraft arresting system is serviceable daily including weekends and statutory
  • Update CAASOLD as per maintenance requirements
  • Perform hydrant and sewer maintenance as
  • Position scaffolding, ladders, and other elevated work platforms for the installation/maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Dispose of used and contaminated oil and other petroleum products in accordance with established on-site disposal methods.
  • Operate vertical lifting equipment to access work areas/equipment.
  • Operate light duty / other vehicles in the performance of their
  • Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on
  • Assist other trades in performance of their Train apprentices up to Journeyperson standard and endorse appropriate documentation.
  • Other related duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION /CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid Interprovincial Journeyperson Millwright certificate or Apprentice with a Certificate of successful completion from a Vocational Institute in the field of Millwright with associated endorsements and logged hours may be considered.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 NL Driver’s
  • Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated work Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must have a clear drivers.
  • Must have a clear Canadian Record.
  • Class 09 Air Brake endorsement is considered an asset.

Hourly Rate: $49.75          Hours per week: 37.5
