As the Royal Canadian Air Forces’ prime service provider at 5 Wing Goose Bay, Labrador, our team delivers comprehensive air operations, emergency services, logistics and engineering expertise to the Department of National Defence. We work on behalf of DND’s “no fail” mission at Goose Bay: supporting NORAD operations for the projection of air power on the north and northeast coasts of Canada, while supporting military training for the Canadian Armed Forces, Allies and NORAD. 5 Wing Goose Bay provides effective training facilities, adaptable infrastructures, and a unique, austere, and challenging training location.   Currently,

You will be part of a team that works closely with the military customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality and efficient services to DND. *This is a “term” position.  Your employment will commence upon completion of background checks and the agreed upon start date.  The position is anticipated to last for a term of four (4) months with the possibility of an extension.* 

 

SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

  • Install, repair and maintain Airfield/ Overhead, Underground Electrical Distribution Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all Serco Canada Inc. policies and procedures, including but not limited to Code of Conduct and Ethics, Serco Management System, PDR’s, etc.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of electrical system.
  • Requisition materials and supplies planning.
  • Assist with PM Inspections and Repairs on Street Lighting system.
  • Assist with PM Inspections and Repairs on Airfield/ Overhead, Underground Electrical Distribution Systems.
  • May be required to work on energized equipment while finding faults, and making repairs.
  • May be required to assist other sections, contractors, and sub-contractors in the administration of other work.
  • Assist with inspecting building attachments and services to ensure Service Racks are secure, proper ground clearances are adhered to, conductors are uniformly spaced, sagged properly, and connections are tight.
  • Assist with inspecting systems to ensure proper ground resistance values meet the recommendations of the CEC.
  • Assist with PM inspections to ensure equipment will perform under adverse weather conditions.
  • Measure, cut, bend and thread pipes using hand and power tools or machines.
  • Assist in troubleshooting electrical systems for short circuits, overloads, faulty wiring and components, using test equipment for the purpose.
  • Perform / assist in life cycle management of high voltage systems and equipment.
  • Assist other workers associated with distribution system / equipment work.
  • Operation of communication equipment for airfield operations.
  • Operate light duty vehicles and other vehicles.
  • Compile / collate data for management and deliverable reports associated with electrical systems when
  • necessary.
  • Erect/climb scaffolding/ladders etc. and work at heights of up to 120 ft.
  • Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time in coordination with your supervisor.
  • Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required
  • Comply with all regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the operations including occupational health and safety, environmental, drug and alcohol, and quality.

 

Hourly rate: Journey person rate- pending on candidate's apprenticeship level

Qualifications

  • Must have successfully completed a Powerline Technician program in NL.
  • Possession of a valid NL Class 5 driver’s licence is required.
  • Possession or the ability to obtain and maintain Ramp Defensive Driving course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.
  • Possession or ability to obtain ROC A classification or similar under RDDC requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security clearance is required. May be required to upgrade to Secret Level II (dependent on customers security requirements).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
